International Dairy Week (IDW) is more than just an event – it’s a celebration of everything that makes the Australian dairy industry world-class. Recognised as the largest annual dairy event in the Southern Hemisphere and among the top five cattle shows globally, IDW attracts over 4,500 attendees from every state in Australia and more than 20 countries worldwide. It’s a week where the finest dairy breeds – including Holstein, Jersey, Illawarra, Brown Swiss, Ayrshire, and Guernsey – are showcased, and where innovation, connection, and opportunity take centre stage.
Held annually in the third week of January at the Tatura Park Exhibition Centre in the heart of Victoria’s Goulburn Valley dairy region, IDW has evolved into an expo of events that mirrors the World Dairy Expo in the United States while retaining the unique spirit of Australian dairy. From farmgate to global export, IDW provides a platform for the latest in genetics, technology, machinery, marketing, and education. Visitors can engage in property tours, seminars, workshops, and networking opportunities with the people driving the dairy industry forward.
IDW’s program is designed to showcase excellence at every level of the industry. Highlights include seven National Breed Shows, a National Youth Show featuring over 800 head of cattle, and the chance to compete for Australia’s Supreme Champion. With more than 150 breeders on site, elite cattle sales, and opportunities to explore progeny and technology tours, the week is a hub for both commerce and knowledge exchange. Industry breakfasts, dinners, and networking events further provide a relaxed and accessible environment for learning, collaboration, and inspiration.
The event also caters to the wider community with family-friendly entertainment, music, and activities designed to introduce visitors to the Australian dairy industry. Extensive national and international media coverage ensures the week is promoted far and wide, highlighting the quality, innovation, and excellence that define Australian dairy.
IDW’s objectives are to be the premier event on the Australian dairy calendar, promote the industry nationally and internationally (particularly within the Asia-Pacific region), inspire innovation to enhance commercial operations, and acknowledge excellence within the sector. By bringing together farmers, companies, organisations, and individuals, International Dairy Week remains the ultimate forum to connect, compete, learn, and celebrate everything that makes Australian dairy exceptional.
